A Modern Marriage

This is the final part of a trilogy of works illustrated by Fernando Feijoo. Pat Francis wrote the text  where the words are part of the overall picture and form the columns and text shapes that complement the image. Rafa Armero worked on the design and layout of the book.

Inspired by William Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress, A Harlot’s Progress and Marriage a la Mode, the eternal stories of money, corruption, dissolution, crime and redemption are firmly rooted in the twenty first century.

The text aims to give a perspective on London life, mores and values, by using rhythms from modern music, allusion, slang and publishing references. The words create a broad narrative, influenced by the original story but departing from this in order to locate Crack, Charlie and Tara in contemporary Britain.

For Once Dead You Never Shall Return

Drink accentuates the moods of the drinker, a mildly melancholic person is transformed  into a maudlin blubbering mess, an alienated frustrated person into a loud violent thug; friendly turns into amorous, a libidinous pest.

It does punctuate the rhythms of our lives however, weddings, funerals, family gatherings and meeting with friends.  Some people meet up for “a coffee”, but your real friends meet up for a drink.  Not to get drunk necessarily, that’s an occupational hazard; but if you should happen to get kazooed, it’s the material for rueful debriefing the next day.

This collection of prints serves neither to celebrate nor condemn drinking, but merely to observe it.  Cheers!

This is a limited edition set which consists of six prints, four by Fernando Feijoo and three by Chris Pig. These original prints have been printed on Somerset velvet 300 gsm paper they are 40 x 25 cm. Archival inks have been used with several impressions printed in different tones to make up the final print.

THE BRITISH QUEEN

Chris Pig & Fernando Feijoo collaborated together in the production of this piece of work. Chris started off drawing his part of the work onto special drawing film and then sent it to Fernando to complete with his characters within the scene that had been drawn. This was the first time both artists had worked together on a print and it taught them about personal working styles and practice.

The British Queen represents a certain kind of British pub and the kinds of characters you might come across if you were to stumble into some back street local. It was interesting using a range of mark making techniques on the film before it was passed to lithographic plate and printed on summerset velvet paper with five different impressions printed in order to achieve the full tonal range.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

Marcelle Hanselaar and Fernando Feijoo worked on this lithograph print together. First of all Marcella drew her part of the image onto a sheet of transfer film leaving space for Fernando once she had finished. Fernando then added his characters and landscapes with inks and crayons to compliment Marcella work and the two styles became one piece of work. This was an exciting experience as neither artist knew what the other one would do to their work, so there was an element of suprise to the final result.

Fernando then printed the image as several different plates to achieve a rich tonal variation and colour balance to the image.

Down the rabbit hole was published and printed on Sommerset velvet paper as an edition of 20.
